Vokal, Inc. (“Vokal,” “we,” “our,” or “us”) values your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and protect information when you use the Vokal mobile application, website, and related services (collectively, the “Services”).

By using the Services, you agree to the practices described in this Privacy Policy.

1. Information We Collect

We may collect the following categories of information:

A. Information You Provide to Us

When you create an account or use the Services, we may collect information such as:

  • First and last name

  • Phone number

  • ZIP code

  • Date of birth

  • Gender

  • Profile photo, if you choose to upload one

  • Feedback, support requests, and other messages you send to us

  • Information you submit when voting on properties, suggesting businesses, sharing properties, or otherwise interacting with the app

B. Information Collected Automatically

When you use the Services, we may automatically collect:

  • Device information, such as device type, operating system, app version, and identifiers

  • Usage information, such as screens viewed, features used, buttons tapped, session activity, and in-app interactions

  • Diagnostic and crash information

  • Log data, such as timestamps and technical events

C. Location Information

If you allow location access, Vokal may collect your device’s location while you are actively using the app in order to support app functionality, such as centering the map and helping display nearby properties. Based on our current implementation, location is used in the foreground for app functionality and is not stored persistently by Vokal, except as may be reflected in temporary technical logs or required by service providers to deliver the feature.

D. Information From Third Parties

We may receive information from service providers and partners that help us operate the Services, including providers for authentication, hosting, analytics, messaging, crash reporting, and map functionality.

2. How We Use Information

We use information to:

  • Create and manage user accounts

  • Authenticate users and enable login functionality

  • Deliver SMS verification or account-related text messages

  • Provide, maintain, and improve the Services

  • Enable users to vote on vacant properties and submit business preferences

  • Associate votes and app activity with user accounts for internal platform functionality

  • Display relevant properties, maps, and location-based features

  • Respond to support inquiries and feedback

  • Monitor engagement, usage trends, app performance, and crashes

  • Protect against fraud, abuse, or unauthorized access

  • Comply with legal obligations and enforce our terms

3. Votes and Community Data

Votes submitted through Vokal are associated with user accounts within our systems so we can operate the product, prevent abuse, and maintain the integrity of user participation.

We may use voting activity and related engagement data to generate reports, trends, and demand insights for internal use and for landlords, brokers, property owners, or other business partners. When we share these insights externally, we intend to do so in aggregated, anonymized, or otherwise non-personally identifying form, and not in a way that directly identifies individual users unless we separately disclose that practice or obtain your consent.

4. How We Share Information

We may share information in the following circumstances:

A. Service Providers

We share information with vendors and service providers that help us operate the Services. Depending on the feature used, these providers may include:

  • Supabase for database, backend infrastructure, and authentication-related services

  • Twilio for SMS delivery, such as login verification or account-related text messaging

  • PostHog for product analytics and usage measurement

  • Sentry for crash reporting, diagnostics, and app stability monitoring

  • Google Maps / Google Places for map rendering, location display, and places autocomplete or related location features

These service providers may process personal information on our behalf as needed to perform their services.

B. Business Partners

We may share aggregated, anonymized, or non-personally identifying platform insights with landlords, brokers, property owners, business partners, or prospective partners. These insights may include voting trends, demand patterns, and other community-level signals.

C. Legal and Safety Reasons

We may disclose information if required by law, subpoena, court order, or other legal process, or if we believe disclosure is reasonably necessary to protect the rights, property, or safety of Vokal, our users, or others.

D. Business Transfers

If Vokal is involved in a merger, acquisition, financing, asset sale, reorganization, bankruptcy, or similar transaction, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction.

E. With Your Consent

We may share information when you direct us to do so or otherwise consent.

5. Analytics, Diagnostics, and Tracking

We use analytics and diagnostics tools to understand how users interact with the Services, improve product performance, identify bugs, and measure feature usage.

For example:

  • PostHog may collect usage data such as screens viewed, actions taken, and engagement with app features

  • Sentry may collect crash reports, error logs, and technical diagnostics to help us identify and fix issues

6. Location Services

If you grant Vokal permission to access location data, that information is used to support app functionality, such as centering the map and helping show nearby properties. You can control location permissions at any time through your device settings.

If your current implementation only uses coarse or approximate location for map centering, your in-app disclosures and App Store privacy answers should reflect that. If you later begin collecting precise location or storing location history, this Privacy Policy should be updated.

7. Your Choices and Rights

Depending on your location and applicable law, you may have the right to request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal information.

You may also:

  • Update certain account or profile information in the app

  • Control permissions such as location and notifications through your device settings

  • Contact us to request deletion of your account or personal information

To request deletion of your account or make a privacy-related request, please email support@vokalapp.com.

If you request deletion, we will take reasonable steps to delete or de-identify your information, subject to legal, security, fraud prevention, and operational retention needs.

8. Data Retention

We retain personal information for as long as reasonably necessary to:

  • Provide and maintain the Services

  • Keep your account active

  • Support core app functionality

  • Comply with legal, tax, accounting, or reporting obligations

  • Resolve disputes

  • Enforce our agreements

  • Detect or prevent fraud, abuse, or security incidents

When personal information is no longer reasonably necessary for these purposes, we will delete it, de-identify it, or anonymize it, unless retention is required or permitted by law.

If you request account deletion, some information may be retained for a limited period where necessary for legal compliance, dispute resolution, security, or backup and archival processes.

9. Data Security

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards to protect personal information. However, no method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

10. Children’s Privacy

Vokal is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we learn that we have collected personal information from a child under 13 without appropriate authorization, we will take steps to delete it.

11. International Users

If you access the Services from outside the United States, your information may be processed and stored in the United States or other jurisdictions where we or our service providers operate.

12. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will update the “Last Updated” date and may provide additional notice within the app or by other appropriate means.
